In the New Year, the residents of Canacona woke up to a day of gaiety & celebration & welcomed 2013 with The Lalit Carnival Ano Novo. Music, colorful tableaux and lot of laughter were fuelled in the air at the Carnival ANO NOVO 2013, which marks the conclusion of `The Festival of Canacona’. The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group which is celebrating its 25th year organized it for the fourth consecutive year.

Over 200 costumed folk dancers participated in the Carnival which also included some very attractive and colourful tableaux as part of the parade. Mr. Mahadev Naik, Minister for Industries, Goa along with Dr. Jyotsna Suri, Chairperson & Managing Director, The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group & Vice President FICCI flagged off the Carnival Ano Novo 2013 from The Lalit Golf & Spa Resort Goa on Tuesday.

The Carnival ANO NOVO 2013 was truly a spectacular sight. Over 1,000 people from in and surrounding areas of Canacona came to witness the Carnival.  The Parade began at The Lalit Golf & Spa Resort Goa. Special performances showcasing the local flavor were presented by local dancers – the parade moved to Chaudi onto Chaar Raasta and finished with an exhilarating spectacle of dance at the popular Palolem beach.

The `Festival of Canacona’ stands as a firm commitment to the initiative of ‘Developing Destinations’ by The Lalit Suri Hospitality Group and spells out its vision, which encompasses holistic development of tourism and hospitality with social responsibility. The Group endeavors to involve the local population, as it feels such initiatives help promote the prosperity and popularity of that region.

Dr Jyotsna Suri said, “It feels great to host such an event every year. The participation of the locals has been extremely high. It is really encouraging to see how the people of Canacona and the surrounding areas have embraced this Festival.”

The Lalit Suri Hospitality group is dedicated to encourage youth as well as communities through thrilling sports events. After the huge success of the Beach Polo, the group organized The Lalit Run Cycle Swim (RCS) and The Lalit Beach Body for the first time.

The Lalit RCS was dedicated to the Indian Navy and Life Guards of Goa, who are entrusted with the safety of Goa’s beaches.  Shekhar Kamat from Drishti Life Guards team won the first ever Lalit RCS trophy clocking 1 hour 36 minutes to reach the finish line.  The Lalit Beach Body competition showcased some of Goa’s best and strongest body-builders. Subhash Andrade won the Mr. Beach Body trophy while Laxmi Kant Kunkolkar was declared the Best Poser.

The Group’s Premium club “Kitty Su” also organized the Kitty Su Beach party on December 31st 2012. The people of Goa as well as the hotel guests had a chance to enjoy and indulge in the Group’s super-luxe nightclub and the experience it offers.

The `Festival of Canacona’ also witnessed The Lalit Football Finals on December 29th & Soccer Exhibition Match between The Lalit Team and the famous Dempo Club on December 30th at Devbaga Ground, Canacona – in association with The Lions Club of Canacona.

To stimulate youth and enhance the game of football, The Group organized The Lalit Football Cup 2012. This year the event became bigger and better with teams from all over Goa registering them for this special tournament. The local teams had been playing amongst each other for past few weeks & December 29th saw an exciting final match between Wilred Leisure Sports Club and Dramapur Sports Club. Wilred Leisure Sports Club was declared as the winner. The winning team and the runner up received a trophy each and a cash prize.

Some of the best players from the region of Canacona were picked up to form The Lalit Team which fought an enthralling battle with national champions, Dempo club for the winners’ title. The Lalit Team won the match after an exciting penalty shootout. The winners and the runner up took home a specially designed ‘The Lalit Football Cup Trophy’ and cash prize for each player. The entire Devbaga ground witnessed a great number of enthusiastic spectators who cheered the teams throughout the match.
