Herald Publications and Prudent Media secured their berths in the semi-finals of the Inter-Media nine-a-side football tournament at the Athletic Stadium, Bambolim, on Monday.

The tournament is being organised by the Sports Journalists Association of Goa (SJAG) in collaboration with Goa Football Development Council (GFDC) and Sports Authority of Goa (SAG).

In Game 5 of the tournament, Herald thumped Gomantak Times 4-0 after

leading 2-0 at half time. Minguel Carvalho gave Herald the lead with a neat finish while Shailesh Zantye added another before the break. Minguel secured his brace in the second session while Shailesh Madkaikar rounded off the tally as he toed the ball in from close. Minguel was adjudged Outstanding Player of the Match.

Later, in Game 6, Prudent edged past All India Radio (AIR) 2-1 in a closely contested tie. Savio Noronha put AIR into the lead with a powerful shot but their opponents fought back with goals from Shirish Kunkolkar and Amar Patil’s header after a cross from Niraj Prabhu.

In the first semi-finals on Tuesday, Herald will face Tarun Bharat at 3pm. Prudent will take on The Times of India in the second last-four clash at 4pm.
