A three member team from Goa Institute of Management has qualified for the final round in an international marketing competition involving 1800 student teams from 76 countries. The annual global marketing competition conducted by ESIC Business & Marketing School in Spain started in April this year.

The 4 stage competition had 2 teams each from three regions: Asia-Oceania, Europe- Africa and America, qualifying for the finals. Goa Institute of Management and IIM Bangalore are the top two teams to qualify for the competition from the Asia-Oceania region.
The competition required the participants to take strategic decisions in all areas of an organization such as Marketing, HRM, Finance, Operations, and Customer Relationship Management and apply the theoretical knowledge taught in classrooms. The students had to start an automobile company from scratch and manage it in an online simulation.
The second year students of Goa Institute of Management, Robin Garg, Disha Sharma and Devansh Baghel are now gearing up to compete with the top 6 teams for the finals which will be held on 18th November in Spain.
Robin Garg said, “Goa Institute of Management has a mandatory business simulation course called Markstrat in its first year syllabus. Learning Markstrat not only helped us in understanding key strategic decisions that have to be made while entering a market with a new product but also gave us an edge over the other teams during this competition”
The Goa Institute of Management team along with the team from IIM Bangalore would be travelling to Spain in November on an all-expenses paid trip, sponsored by ESIC. Prof. Tarun Pasricha who was the mentor of the GIM team during the competition, will also be accompanying the team for the finals in Madrid.
“All the phases of this competition were extremely enriching in terms of learning and team building. We are very excited about the international exposure that we would be getting. I hope we make Goa Institute of Management proud.” says Disha. The other teams to qualify from Europe-Africa region are from Russia and Spain while the results for the American region are awaited.
