A hat-trick by striker Mevan Dias and a late goal by Bryson Pereira helped FC Goa Dev Team beat Vasco SC 4-0 in the GFA TACA Goa U20 First Division League at the Salvador do Mundo Panchayat Ground on Tuesday.
The Gaurs surely benefited from their playing time in the recently concluded Reliance Foundation Development League and GFA President’s Super League, as they dominated the proceedings throughout the match. Skilful defending, excellent build-up play and accurate passing were some of the qualities that Deggie Cardozo’s boys displayed as they took home the three points with relative ease.
Mevan Dias scored his first goal in the 32nd minute. An inch-perfect cross by Salgeo Dias from the left flank found the youngster, who in turn placed his header into the far corner of the net.
Five minutes later, the forward doubled the lead. A brilliant piece of play by Malsawmtluanga drew out Vasco’s goalkeeper. He then passed it to Mevan, who only had to shoot the ball into an empty net.
Mevan Dias completed his hat-trick in the 56th minute. Once again, the chief orchestrator of the goal was Salgeo as he received the ball on the right flank, sidestepped a defender and played it into a dangerous area.
At the right place and at the right time was Mevan again, whose strong shot rendered the Vasco goalkeeper helpless as it flew past him into the corner of the net.
Finally, in the 84th minute, Bryson Pereira netted the fourth and final goal for FC Goa to wrap up the proceedings.
The Dev Team will return to action in the GFA TACA Goa U18 First Division League on May 20, when they take on Panjim Footballers at the Salvador do Mundo Panchayat Ground.
