Goa Institute of Management (GIM) one of the premier B-schools of India has recently appointed Dr. Sunil Rai as the new director of the institute effective 1st February 2013. Dr. Rai was selected by the Search Committee of the Board of GIM. Prior to joining GIM, Dr. Rai was the Vice President at NIIT University, Neemrana, Rajasthan.
Dr Sunil Rai, comes from an engineering background, having studied marine engineering, from the Naval College of Engineering INS Shivaji in Lonavla. He then went on and pursued an M Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay before completing an MBA in HR and received a PhD in Business Continuity Management from BITS Pilani.
Dr. Rai has spent 32 years in the field of general and technical management, largely with the Indian Navy. He was the Chief Engineer onboard Indian naval ships, and Jt. Controller Material Planning in the Indian navy. He has also held the position of Deputy General Manager at Goa Shipyard Ltd Vasco.
Dr Sunil Rai went on to teach management in reputed academic institutions which included SP Jain Institute of Management and Research in Mumbai as a joint Director and NIIT University, Neemrana, Rajasthan. He was also actively leading the team at Mumbai Business School which was founded by Dr. Rai.

The Goa Institute of Management has entered a new phase in its legacy with the inauguration of its new campus at Sanquelim in Sattari Taluka which is located on an expansive 50 acre plot surrounded by the idyllic foothills of the Western Ghats. GIM is currently in the first phase of expansion with a new international student’s hostel, a new faculty accommodation and housing block and a residential block for visiting faculty. In addition to the existing state-of-the-art infrastructure, the institute also proposes to add a swimming pool and tennis courts.
