The Goa Institute of Management (GIM) one of the premier B-Schools in India, hosted its annual convocation ceremony for the PGDBM batch of 2012-14 at the campus in Sanquelim. Students turned professional managers received the coveted diploma after having completed over 22 months of academically packed, rigorous training with exposure to live industrial projects as well as community oriented assignments.

A total of 286 students were awarded their diplomas at the convocation ceremony. While 247 are full-time PGDMBA students, 39 are from the part-time MBA program which has gained ground with working executives.

The event was presided over by Gopal Krishnan, Chairman, Board of Governors of GIM and Executive Director, Tata Sons. R Mukundan, Managing Director, Tata Chemicals Limited and Chairman, CII, western Region delivered the convocation address. Also present at the ceremony was Pratapsingh Rane, President of the Board of Trustees and Dr. Sunil Rai, Director, GIM, along with other members of the Board of Governors, students and faculty members of the institute.

mThe 20th Convocation ceremony at GIM began with the Director’s Report on the institute’s performance for the last academic year, highlighting the achievements of the B-school and its students. The students of GIM proved that they are one of the best in B-schools across the country with placement offers from some of the top companies in India which included JP Morgan, Wipro, ICICI Bank, Cognizant and Infosys among others. 95% of the students have received lucrative placement offers with some securing international postings.

R. Mukundan, Managing Director, Tata Chemicals Limited handed over the diplomas and special awards of merits to deserving students.  The Gold medal for Best Academic Performance PGDM was handed to Ms Priyanka Pravin Prabhu while Ms. Ashima Birmani received the Fr. Romuald D’Souza Gold Medal for Best Student of the Year. GIM Gold Medal for Best Academic Performance Part Time PGDM was awarded to Goyal Gaurav and the GIM Silver Medal for Best Academic Performance Part Time PGDM was awarded to Varsha Bhansal.

During the key note address, R. Mukundan who is an alumni of the institute reminisced his time as a student at GIM. He said, “24 years ago I myself was sitting where you are, I feel proud to see you here today. My advice to you as you step out of this campus would be that you lead your life with no regrets; every choice has consequences. Secondly, you will find true calling in good company. Hence try to surround yourself with good people. Lead a simple life in terms of needs and wants and don’t complicate your life with unnecessary things and lastly, focus on sustainability. GIM is about diversity and innovation, so don’t have single-mindedness. Think of the holistic development of the community in all that you do.”
